03OCT2014 // SOMA STORES STORE OPENING

Top c/o ASTO / HW Pants: American Apparel / Boots: ASOS / Bag: Balenciaga City

Went to the opening of the SOMA Stores at Green Sun Hotel showcasing up-and-coming local designers (photos here). The space was almost like a museum, with art installations on your way to the next retail shop. I've been following a couple of the designers for a while now (specifically Proudrace, who used to only sell their fashion internationally and Basic Movement by Esme Palaganas, a very talented young designer who pulls at my fashion-basics-with-a-twist heartstrings), so you can imagine my excitement of knowing they are finally going to have a retail space nearby! The event had a fashion show (which I missed due to very heavy traffic) and an afterparty. The attire was black and/or white- well, you know that's exactly my jam.

26MAR2014 // RONNIE & JOE

Top: Vintage / Shorts: From Korea / Challenge Talisman Necklace: Pyrrha  / Bag: Wabisabi / Spin Wedges: Acne Studios / Lip: MAC Cyber + Night Moth

Super simple look for Ronnie & Joe Optical Salon's launch party last week. As expected, the store was very well designed, and showcased all the beautiful eyewear in a very tasteful and effortless way. Ronnie & Joe represent several amazing brands like Dita, Native Sons, Thom Browne, Moscot, Illesteva, Matsuda, Karen Walker and more. Having gone through Lasik surgery several years ago to give me better vision, I now (partially) wish I had a real excuse to wear some of the optical frames we saw in the store. I wear a lot of dark colours and pretty basic clothing, but I love my crazy eyewear. I'm glad to know it's not going to be too hard to find them locally anymore. More photos from the event here.

QUICKIEANDBADPHOTOS

Drape Back Dress: T by Alexander Wang / Boots: Asos / Clutch: Artisan Adora

Another one of those random bad photo posts on here, truth be told I've been having camera issues and not been happy with the photos I have. It's a sign I need a new camera soonest.

In other news-- I was invited to YStyle's 10th anniversary last week which was very exciting seeing as everyone in the local fashion industry was going to be there. There was a sit-down dinner, an art exhibit, and a fashion show by one of the country's most popular fashion designers, Joey Samson. Sadly, we missed most of the event but made it for the show! As expected, what any viewer would appreciate most from Joey Samson is his eye for clean, crisp tailoring with very specific detailing. The show came with an art presentation that painted the floor red, and really cool, almost somber bass tunes. Needless to say, I fell for the masculine looks; boxy shapes, oversized jackets, and the smart deconstruction of panels.

Love lots, black soul xx
